A world where people access opportunities and live free of poverty and injustice

STAR Support Project

In South Sudan, political conflict, economic instability and drought have led to mass displacement and severe hardships. People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) face significant challenges such as social ostracism, limited access to education and economic struggles. The ongoing political instability, combined with the high prevalence of HIV, has created a dire situation in the community.

The Star Support project was established 20 years ago by two Christian Brothers as a community initiative in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in Yambio, Western Equatoria, South Sudan. It is now a registered community-based organization (CBO) that plays a crucial role in HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and management while also improving the livelihoods of those affected.

Star Support now serves over 2,700 men and women, 605 orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs), and 176 caregivers in adhering to HIV/AIDS treatment through its programmes. They also provide services like awareness, counselling and linkage to antiretroviral (ARVS) in the nearby facilities to approximately 12,000 in the community. The organisation provides critical services, including HIV/AIDS care, treatment for opportunistic infections, education support for OVCs and livelihood training for caregivers in areas such as tailoring, kitchen gardening, and entrepreneurship.
