Nai Disha
In August 2002, St. Patrick’s Secondary School in Asansol, India founded Nai Disha, a new school for the poverty-stricken children of the community.
Just over 10 years on, Nai Disha has 50 children enrolled in school who would otherwise never have received an education.
The children are given a free meal and their classes are held from 10am to 12.30pm. Recent support from the Beyond 250 Appeal has allowed the school to purchase twenty new computers and a new computer room has been set up. The students are currently learning Microsoft Word and Powerpoint. This gives them a practical skill and an opportunity to improve their education.
Donations also allow the school to improve the community aspects of the project. Recently a class outing was organised to Maithon & Shatabdi Park, which gave the students a very rare opportunity to take some time out and just enjoy themselves.
