Mundo Mejor College
Mundo Mejor means “Better World” and it offers secondary schooling to students in the northern Peruvian city of Chimbote.
Situated on the Pacific coast, Chimbote is the centre of a large fishing industry and the fish-meal factories offer employment to a significant number of people in the community. So much so that Chimbote has become a centre for migrants from the mountain areas of the country as families move closer to the coast in search of opportunities for themselves and for their children.
Mundo Mejor College is about to celebrate 35 years of educating the young people of Chimbote. Senior students from the school are expected to become involved in social outreach, helping in a variety of projects in the local community. The school also offers an afternoon session to students who otherwise would not be able to afford a quality education.
You can find out more about the college’s work on their website.
