Defensoría Edmundo Rice

Defensoría Edmundo Rice provides education and training in human rights to pupils, parents and the wider school communities in Peru and Uruguay. The project trains project participants on critical human rights issues and supports local campaigns on the rights of children, women, indigenous people and the environment. They collaborate with other NGOs to create a united front that encourages duty bearers to prioritise human rights.

Through their partnership with Edmund Rice International and the global Edmund Rice Network, the project amplifies their advocacy efforts through submission to the UN Human Rights Council. The team monitors the UN Universal Periodic Review recommendations for each of their countries to hold the governments accountable to their human rights obligations. This work empowers communities to advocate for their rights and promote a more just society for all.
