Changa Changa Community School
Changa Changa Community School is a community based school in Mazabuka, Zambia. It was established in 2000, by the Christian Brothers and the local community to provide access to quality education.
An integral element of development work is participation of the local people. It is a goal that is only attained by the people being actively and genuinely involved. Active participation of communities in the processes of their own development builds their confidence that they have the power to identify their challenges, analyse them and prescribe solutions. In this regard, Changa Changa Community School has been engaging closely with parents in finding local solutions and establishing a primary school to meet their needs. One particular outcome of this has been the establishment of a food garden, to provide a nutritious and sustainable source of food for students. After the project was jointly agreed with the parents, they were mobilised to contribute their own labour in order to keep it running.
