ERD is undertaking a Strategy Renewal process in 2022, setting the vision for the next 3-5 years. On May 5 and 6, the ERD Board, Members and staff met for a two day strategic renewal workshop.
In 2021, ERD revised our Safeguarding Policy for partner projects. In order to ensure projects have the highest possible safeguarding standards, in early 2022 ERD completed an assessment of the policies and practices of 12 partner projects.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of life in West Africa. In Sierra Leone, the pandemic widened the level of vulnerability among poverty-stricken households. The West Africa Area Mission Office with a grant from ERD supported 98 households with basic food items.
Education for Life is a project located in Eldoret, Kenya that seeks to empower and provide opportunities for people living with HIV and AIDS emanating from five informal settlements. This is done through education, psychosocial counselling, economic empowerment and advocacy.
Defensoría Edmundo Rice is an NGO committed to the defence and promotion of human rights in Latin America. Despite the pandemic and school closures, the project carried out successful initiatives this year.
Misean Cara included the Western Cluster project in Zambia in their recent evaluation of Women’s Empowerment in Agricultural Settings. The project currently supports 880 beneficiaries through trainings, provision of agricultural inputs and education.
Mission Coordinators and partners identified an urgent need to build the governance capacity of Edmund Rice development projects in 2019 and 2020. In response to this, a global vision for governance training was articulated.
The Edmund Rice Network actively engaged in climate activism leading up to COP26, the UN’s Climate Change Conference, which took place in November in Glasgow, Scotland.
Ardscoil Rís in Limerick and Ardscoil Na Mara in Tramore have both generously raised funds for Edmund Rice Mission projects in India. These funds are currently supporting two projects in need of funding especially in the context of COVID-19.
In mid-October, Br. John Casey was appointed as ERD Board Chair, succeeding Mr. John Cooley who recently stepped down after many years of service.
