About Us

Edmund Rice Development is a development agency established in 2008 in Ireland by the Congregation of Christian Brothers and governed today by an independent board of directors.

Our Vision is a world where people access opportunities and live free of poverty and injustice. We collaborate to support the sustainability of our partner projects by sourcing funding, building donor engagement and working with our partners to improve development capacity. ERD is committed to transparency and accountability, and to an efficient, effective operation that impacts positively on the lives of people made poor.

ERD supports the international development projects and programmes of our Edmund Rice Mission partners in the areas of Education, Health, Sustainable Livelihoods and Advocacy. We provide funding, development and capacity-building support to over 20 partner projects, benefiting over 75,000 people each year in 11 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice was born on the 1st June 1762. He was born in Callan, Ireland at a time of great troubles. England totally dominated the land and people of Ireland. The laws of the time made it particularly difficult, even dangerous for people to practice their Catholic faith.
