Welcome to the winter edition of the Edmund Rice Development Newsletter.

As we approach the end of 2016, we would like to send a special thanks to you, our friends, for your ongoing kind support and interest in the many projects and ministries of Edmund Rice Mission around the world.

In this newsletter, we look at the progress of the new cluster of Edmund Rice Mission communities in Western Zambia. Community activities are now taking place there and we report on a community fun day in Luampa.

In this issue you will also read an update on the Mary Rice Day Care Centre in the Kibera slum, Nairobi and the centre’s importance for children with disabilities.

This year, Edmund Rice Development was delighted to support the Edmund Rice Beyond Borders (EREBB) Congress, which I had the honour of attending in Kolkata, India in October. EREBB brings together the network of Edmund Rice schools from over 20 countries, they are promoting global solidarity and offer a transformational education for justice and liberation.

During 2016, we reflected on the call of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development to ‘ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’. Thanks to the valuable support of our donors, our Education for Liberation programme will support the provision of inclusive, quality education to more than 17,000 children and young people living in poverty around the world every year.

Once again sincere thanks for your ongoing support and interest and our very best wishes to you and yours for a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

With best wishes,  Jenni Barrett
